Man, this has been a long time coming. I mean, a really long time. You see, I have been in photography since I was a kid and coming out of high school, photography was going to be my program of study in college and career thereafter. However, I ended up taking a different path and graduated with a degree in music (I am a classically trained trumpet player), and Environmental Studies. Yes, I know, very different and a strange double major. However, that is the story of my life- chasing passions and saying YES.
Ultimately, this took me down the path of education where I made that my life’s work. I have taught children from age three (ice skating- a story for another post) through adult graduate students at multiple universities. I have taught adults photography, ice skating, dance, and graduate students- technology. For over 35 years I have taught music, science, and computer science in public and independent schools grades 4 through 12 and for the past six years I have been the principal of a public virtual high school in Lewisville, Texas.
So you ask, why are you writing this story on a blog for a photography business? Great question! You see, I am the owner of a new wedding and portrait photography business called Christopher Bigenho Photography LLC located in the DFW area. Yes, that is me and while my professional career took the path of professional educator, I never stopped taking pictures and the fire never faded.
This will be the first of many posts I will place here as a way for future client-collaborators to get to know who I am. I will also use this space to share photos from recent and past shoots, projects, and adventures. While some of what gets posted here may not seem connected, the through-line is my life experience and what makes me, well, ME. I also firmly believe that while we might specialize in niche photography, our skills grow when we explore our art outside that niche making us better photographers. In the pages to come, you will see many facets of my journey leading to the photographic work I do today.
With all that being said, I am a collector of life’s stories and have done that since I was a little child. Today, I continue to capture stories from my life and look forward to our lives crossing soon so I can preserve some of your life’s journey for your children’s grandchildren to enjoy many years into the future.
